  • Water Maser Survey towards off-plane O-rich AGBs around the orbital plane of the Sagittarius Stellar Stream

    摘要: A 22 GHz water maser survey was conducted towards 178 O-rich AGB stars with the aim of identifying maser emission associated with the Sagittarius stellar stream. In this survey, maser emissions were detected in 21 targets, of which 20 were new detections. We studied the Galactic distributions of H2O and SiO maser-traced AGBs towards the Sgr orbital plane, and found an elongated structure towards the (l, b)~(340, 40) direction. In order to verify its association with the Sagittarius tidal stream, we further studied the 3D motions of these sources, but found, kinematically, these maser-traced AGBs are still Galactic disc sources rather than Stream debris. In addition, we found a remarkable outward motion, ~50 km/s away from the Galactic center of these maser-traced AGBs, but with no systermatic lag of rotational speed which were reported in 2000 for solar neighborhood Miras.

  • Radio continuum and OH line emission of high-z OH megamaser galaxies

    摘要: We present the study of arcsecond scale radio continuum and OH line emission of a sample of known OH megamaser galaxies with $z \geq$ 0.15 using archival Very Large Array (VLA) data. And also the results of our pilot Five hundred meter aperture spherical radio telescope (FAST) observations of 12 of these OHM galaxies. The arcsecond-scale resolution images show that the OH emission is distributed in one compact structure and spatially associated with radio continuum emission. Furthermore, nearly all the fitted components are likely smaller than the beam size ($\sim$ 1.4"), which indicates that the broad OH line profiles of these sources originated from one masing region or that more components are distributed in sub-arcsec scales. The radio parameters, including brightness temperature, spectral index, and q-index, show no significant differences with the low-redshift OHM galaxies, which have significantly lower OH line luminosities. Because these parameters are indicators of the central power sources (AGN, starburst, or both), our results indicate that the presence of radio AGN in the nuclei may not be essential for the formation of OH emission. Over 1/3 of OHMs in this sample (6/17) show possible variable features likely caused by interstellar scintillation due to small angular sizes. We might underestimate this value because these sources are associated with this sample's highest OH line flux densities. Those with low OH line flux densities might need higher sensitivity observations to study the variabilities. These results support the compact nature of OH maser emission and a starburst origin for the OHMs in our selected sample.

  • The NTSC VLBI System and its application in UT1 measurement

    摘要: In order to measure the Universal Time (UT1) in real time, National Time Service Center (NTSC) has built a VGOS-like (VLBI Global Observing System) broadband VLBI network, which includes three 13-m radio telescopes located in Jilin, Sanya and Kashi, and a data analysis center in Xi'an. Each station is equipped with a highly stable hydrogen atomic clock and a self-developed VLBI backend, and is co-located with two GPS receivers. This VGOS-like VLBI network may play an important role in improving the Chinese broadband VLBI technology and making valuable contributions to domestic VLBI measurements of UT1. In this paper, we introduce the specifications of this VLBI network, and present the UT1 measurements at C-band conducted in 2018 using the Jilin-Kashi baseline of this network. The comparisons between our UT1 estimates and those provided by IERS suggest that the NTSC VLBI network is capable to determine UT1 accurate at the level of 58.8 microseconds.

  • The Eclipsing Binaries from the LAMOST Medium-resolution Survey.III. A High-precision Empirical Stellar Mass Library

    摘要: High-precision stellar mass and radius measured directly from binaries can effectively calibrate the stellar models. However, such a database containing full spectral types and large range of metallicity is still not fully established. A continuous effort of data collecting and analysis are requested to complete the database. In this work, we provide a catalog containing 184 binaries with independent atmospheric parameters and accurate masses and radii as the benchmark of stellar mass and radius. The catalog contains 56 new detached binaries from LAMOST Medium-resolution spectroscopic (MRS) survey and 128 detached eclipsing binaries compiled from previous studies. We obtain the orbital solutions of the new detached binaries with uncertainties of masses and radii smaller than 5%. These new samples densify the distribution of metallicity of the high-precision stellar mass library and add 9 hot stars with Teff>8000 K. Comparisons show that these samples well agree with the PARSEC isochrones in Teff-logg-mass-radius-luminosity space. We compare mass and radius estimates from isochrone and SED fitting, respectively, with those from the binary orbital solution. We find that the precision of the stellar-model dependent mass estimates is >10% and the precision of the radius estimates based on atmospheric parameters is >15%. These give a general view of the uncertainty of the usual approaches to estimate stellar mass and radius.

  • A VLBA Trigonometric Parallax for RR Aql and the Mira PL Relation

    摘要: We report VLBA observations of 22 GHz H$_{2}$O and 43 GHz SiO masers toward the Mira variable RR Aql. By fitting the SiO maser emission to a circular ring, we estimate the absolute stellar position of RR Aql and find agreement with Gaia astrometry to within the joint uncertainty of $\approx1$ mas. Using the maser astrometry we measure a stellar parallax of 2.44 $\pm$ 0.07 mas, corresponding to a distance of 410$^{+12}_{-11}$ pc. The maser parallax deviates significantly from the Gaia EDR3 parallax of 1.95 $\pm$ 0.11 mas, indicating a $3.8\sigma$ tension between radio and optical measurements. This tension is most likely caused by optical photo-center variations limiting the Gaia astrometric accuracy for this Mira variable. Combining infrared magnitudes with parallaxes for RR Aql and other Miras, we fit a period-luminosity relation using a Bayesian approach with MCMC sampling and a strong prior for the slope of -3.60 $\pm$ 0.30 from the LMC. We find a $K$-band zero-point (defined at logP(days) = 2.30) of -6.79 $\pm$ 0.15 mag using VLBI parallaxes and -7.08 $\pm$ 0.29 mag using Gaia parallaxes. The Gaia zero-point is statistically consistent with the more accurate VLBI value.

  • VLBI astrometry on the white dwarf pulsar AR Scorpii

    摘要: AR Scorpii (AR Sco), the only-known radio-pulsing white dwarf binary, shows unusual pulsating emission at the radio, infrared, optical and ultraviolet bands. To determine its astrometric parameters at the radio band independently, we conducted multi-epoch Very Long Baseline Interferometry (VLBI) phase-referencing observations with the European VLBI Network (EVN) at 5 GHz and the Chinese VLBI Network (CVN) plus the Warkworth 30-metre telescope (New Zealand) at 8.6 GHz. By using the differential VLBI astrometry, we provide high-precision astrometric measurements on the parallax ($\pi=8.52_{-0.07}^{+0.04}$ mas), and proper motion ($\mu_{\alpha}=9.48_{-0.07}^{+0.04}$ mas yr$^{-1}$, $\mu_{\delta}=-51.32_{-0.38}^{+0.22}$ mas yr$^{-1}$). The new VLBI results agree with the optical Gaia astrometry. Our kinematic analysis reveals that the Galactic space velocities of AR Sco are quite consistent with that of both intermediate polars (IPs) and polars. Combined with the previous tightest VLBI constraint on the size, our parallax distance suggests that the radio emission of AR Sco should be located within the light cylinder of its white dwarf.

  • LAMOST medium-resolution spectroscopic survey of binarity and exotic star (LAMOST-MRS-B): Observation strategy and target selection

    摘要: LAMOST-MRS-B is one of the sub-surveys of LAMOST medium-resolution (R~7500) spectroscopic survey. It aims at studying the statistical properties (e.g., binary fraction, orbital period distribution, mass ratio distribution) of binary stars and exotic stars. We intend to observe about 30000 stars (10 mag = 10, respectively. Most of the sources are B-, A-, and F-type stars with 0.6 < [Fe/H] < 0.4 dex. We also obtain 347 identified variable and exotic stars and about 250 stars with [Fe/H] < 1 dex. We measure radial velocities (RVs) by using 892233 spectra of the stars. The uncertainties of RV achieve about 1 km/s and 10 km/s1 for 95% of late- and early-type stars, respectively.   • The statistical properties of early-type stars from LAMOST DR8

    摘要: Massive binary stars play a crucial role in many astrophysical fields. Investigating the statistical properties of massive binary stars is essential to trace the formation of massive stars and constrain the evolution of stellar populations. However, no consensus has been achieved on the statistical properties of massive binary stars, mainly due to the lack of a large and homogeneous sample of spectroscopic observations. We study the intrinsic binary fraction $f_{\rm b}^{\rm in}$ and distributions of mass ratio $f(q)$ and orbital period $f(P)$ of early-type stars (comprised of O-, B-, and A-type stars) and investigate their dependences on effective temperature $T_{\rm eff}$, stellar metallicity [M/H], and the projection velocity $v\sin{i}$, based on the homogeneous spectroscopic sample from the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope (LAMOST) Data Release Eight (DR8). We found that $f_{\rm b}^{\rm in}$ increases with increasing $T_\mathrm{eff}$. The binary fraction is positively correlated with metallicity for spectra in the sample. Over all the $v\sin{i}$ values we considered, the $f_{\rm b}^{\rm in}$ have constant values of $\sim$50\%. It seems that the binary population is relatively evenly distributed over a wide range of $v\sin{i}$ values, while the whole sample shows that most of the stars are concentrated at low values of $v\sin{i}$ (probably from strong wind and magnetic braking of single massive stars) and at high values of $v\sin{i}$ (likely from the merging of binary stars). Stellar evolution and binary interaction may be partly responsible for this.There are no correlations found between $\pi$($\gamma$) and $T_{\rm eff}$, nor for $\pi$($\gamma$) and [M/H]. The uncertainties of the distribution decrease toward a larger sample size with higher observational cadence.

  • A Milliarcsecond-accurate Position for Sagittarius A*

    摘要: The absolute position of Sgr A*, the compact radio source at the center of the Milky Way, had been uncertain by several tens of milliarcseconds. Here we report improved astrometric measurements of the absolute position and proper motion of Sgr A*. Three epochs of phase-referencing observations were conducted with the Very Long Baseline Array for Sgr A* at 22 and 43 GHz in 2019 and 2020. Using extragalactic radio sources with submilliarcsecond-accurate positions as reference, we determined the absolute position of Sgr A* at a reference epoch 2020.0 to be at $\alpha$(J2000) = $17^{\rm h} 45^{\rm m}40.^{\rm s}032863~\pm~0.^{\rm s}000016$ and $\delta$(J2000) = $-29^{\circ} 00^{\prime} 28.^{''}24260~\pm~0.^{''}00047$, with an updated proper motion $-3.152~\pm~0.011$ and $-5.586~\pm~0.006$ mas yr$^{-1}$ in the easterly and northerly directions, respectively.

  • The Flare and Warp of the Young Stellar Disk traced with LAMOST DR5 OB-type stars

    摘要: We present analysis of the spatial density structure for the outer disk from 8$-$14 \,kpc with the LAMOST DR5 13534 OB-type stars and observe similar flaring on north and south sides of the disk implying that the flaring structure is symmetrical about the Galactic plane, for which the scale height at different Galactocentric distance is from 0.14 to 0.5 \,kpc. By using the average slope to characterize the flaring strength we find that the thickness of the OB stellar disk is similar but flaring is slightly stronger compared to the thin disk as traced by red giant branch stars, possibly implying that secular evolution is not the main contributor to the flaring but perturbation scenarios such as interactions with passing dwarf galaxies should be more possible. When comparing the scale height of OB stellar disk of the north and south sides with the gas disk, the former one is slightly thicker than the later one by $\approx$ 33 and 9 \,pc, meaning that one could tentatively use young OB-type stars to trace the gas properties. Meanwhile, we unravel that the radial scale length of the young OB stellar disk is 1.17 $\pm$ 0.05 \,kpc, which is shorter than that of the gas disk, confirming that the gas disk is more extended than stellar disk. What is more, by considering the mid-plane displacements ($Z_{0}$) in our density model we find that almost all of $Z_{0}$ are within 100 \,pc with the increasing trend as Galactocentric distance increases.

  • An Empirical Bayesian Approach to Limb-darkening in Modeling WASP-121b Transit Light Curves

    摘要: We present a novel, iterative method using an empirical Bayesian approach for modeling the limb darkened WASP-121b transit from the TESS light curve. Our method is motivated by the need to improve $R_{p}/R_{\ast}$ estimates for exoplanet atmosphere modeling, and is particularly effective with the limb darkening (LD) quadratic law requiring no prior central value from stellar atmospheric models. With the non-linear LD law, the method has all the advantages of not needing atmospheric models but does not converge. The iterative method gives a different $R_{p}/R_{\ast}$ for WASP-121b at a significance level of 1$\sigma$ when compared with existing non-iterative methods. To assess the origins and implications of this difference, we generate and analyze light curves with known values of the limb darkening coefficients (LDCs). We find that non-iterative modeling with LDC priors from stellar atmospheric models results in an inconsistent $R_{p}/R_{\ast}$ at 1.5$\sigma$ level when the known LDC values are as those previously found when modeling real data by the iterative method. In contrast, the LDC values from the iterative modeling yields the correct value of $R_{p}/R_{\ast}$ to within 0.25$\sigma$. For more general cases with different known inputs, Monte Carlo simulations show that the iterative method obtains unbiased LDCs and correct $R_{p}/R_{\ast}$ to within a significance level of 0.3$\sigma$. Biased LDC priors can cause biased LDC posteriors and lead to bias in the $R_{p}/R_{\ast}$ of up to 0.82$\%$, 2.5$\sigma$ for the quadratic law and 0.32$\%$, 1.0$\sigma$ for the non-linear law. Our improvement in $R_{p}/R_{\ast}$ estimation is important when analyzing exoplanet atmospheres.

  • Asteroseismology of RRab variable star EZ Cnc from K2 photometry and LAMOST spectroscopy

    摘要: EZ Cnc, or EPIC 212182292, is a non-Blazhko RRab variable star located in the field of K2 Campaign 16. Its atmospheric parameters ($T_{\rm eff}$, $\log{g}$, [M/H]) and radial velocities are measured from the 55 high-quality LAMOST medium-resolution spectra. The fundamental frequency of pulsation is derived as $f=1.8323(17)$ d$^{-1}$ from the K2 light curves. The amplitude ratios $R_{21} = 0.5115(15), 0.490(8)$, $R_{31} = 0.3249(20), 0.279(7)$ and Fourier phase differences $\varphi_{21}=2.7550(20), 2.764(16)$, $\varphi_{31}=5.7194(25), 5.719(31)$ are determined from the Fourier decomposition of K2 light curve and LAMOST radial velocity curve, respectively. Through the constraints of the parameters, four optimal models are obtained in a time-dependent turbulent convection model survey for EPIC 212182292. The parameters of EPIC 212182292 are derived as $M=0.48\pm0.03$ M$_{\odot}$, $L = 42\pm2$ L$_{\odot}$, $T_{\rm eff}=6846\pm50$ K, $\log{g}=2.79\pm0.01$ dex, and $Z = 0.006\pm0.002$, respectively. The precisely determined parameters for RRab variable stars like EPIC 212180092 might help to better understand the period-luminosity relationship of RR Lyrae stars.

  • LTD064402+245919: A Subgiant with a 1-3 M$_{\odot}$ Undetected Companion Identified from LAMOST-TD Data

    摘要: Single-line spectroscopic binaries recently contribute to the stellar-mass black hole discovery, independently of the X-ray transient method. We report the identification of a single-line binary system LTD064402+245919, with an orbital period of 14.50 days. The observed component is a subgiant with a mass of 2.77$\pm$0.68M$_{\odot}$, radius 15.5$\pm$2.5R$_{\odot}$, effective temperature $T_{\rm eff}$ 4500$\pm$200K, and surface gravity log\emph{g} 2.5$\pm$0.25dex. The discovery makes use of the LAMOST time-domain (LAMOST-TD) and ZTF survey. Our general-purpose software pipeline applies the Lomb-Scargle periodogram to determine the orbital period and uses machine-learning to classify the variable type from the folded light curves. We apply a combined model to estimate the orbital parameters from both the light and radial velocity curves, taking constraints on the primary star mass, mass function, and detection limit of secondary luminosity into consideration. We obtain a radial velocity semi-amplitude of 44.6$\pm$1.5 km s$^{-1}$, mass ratio of 0.73$\pm$0.07, and an undetected component mass of 2.02$\pm$0.49M$_{\odot}$ when the type of the undetected component is not set. We conclude that the inclination is not well constrained, and that the secondary mass is larger than 1M$_{\odot}$ when the undetected component is modelled as a compact object. According to our investigations using an MCMC simulation, increasing the spectra SNR by a factor of 3 would enable the secondary light to be distinguished (if present). The algorithm and software in this work are able to serve as general-purpose tools for the identification of compact objects quiescent in X-rays.

  • The Spectroscopic Binaries from LAMOST Medium-Resolution Survey (MRS). I. Searching for Double-lined Spectroscopic Binaries (SB2s) with Convolutional Neural Network

    摘要: We developed a convolutional neural network (CNN) model to distinguish the double-lined spectroscopic binaries (SB2s) from others based on single exposure medium-resolution spectra ($R\sim 7,500$). The training set consists of a large set of mock spectra of single stars and binaries synthesized based on the MIST stellar evolutionary model and ATLAS9 atmospheric model. Our model reaches a novel theoretic false positive rate by adding a proper penalty on the negative sample (e.g., 0.12\% and 0.16\% for the blue/red arm when the penalty parameter $\Lambda=16$). Tests show that the performance is as expected and favors FGK-type Main-sequence binaries with high mass ratio ($q \geq 0.7$) and large radial velocity separation ($\Delta v \geq 50\,\mathrm{km\,s^{-1}}$). Although the real false positive rate can not be estimated reliably, validating on eclipsing binaries identified from Kepler light curves indicates that our model predicts low binary probabilities at eclipsing phases (0, 0.5, and 1.0) as expected. The color-magnitude diagram also helps illustrate its feasibility and capability of identifying FGK MS binaries from spectra. We conclude that this model is reasonably reliable and can provide an automatic approach to identify SB2s with period $\lesssim 10$ days. This work yields a catalog of binary probabilities for over 5 million spectra of 1 million sources from the LAMOST medium-resolution survey (MRS), and a catalog of 2198 SB2 candidates whose physical properties will be analyzed in our following-up paper. Data products are made publicly available at the journal as well as our Github website.

  • TESS Timings of 31 Hot Jupiters with Ephemeris Uncertainties

    摘要: A precise transit ephemeris serves as the premise for follow-up exoplanet observations. We compare TESS Objects of Interest (TOI) transit timings of 262 hot Jupiters with the archival ephemeris and find 31 of them having TOI timing offsets, among which WASP-161b shows the most significant offset of -203.7$\pm$4.1 minutes. The median value of these offsets is 17.8 minutes, equivalent to 3.6 $\sigma$. We generate TESS timings in each sector for these 31 hot Jupiters, using a self-generated pipeline. The pipeline performs photometric measurements to TESS images and produces transit timings by fitting the light curves. We refine and update the previous ephemeris, based on these TESS timings (uncertainty $\sim$ 1 minute) and a long timing baseline ($\sim 10$ years). Our refined ephemeris gives the transit timing at a median precision of 0.82 minutes until 2025 and 1.21 minutes until 2030. We regard the timing offsets mainly originating from the underestimated ephemeris uncertainty. All the targets with timing offset larger than 10$\sigma$ present earlier timings than the prediction, which cannot be due to underestimated ephemeris uncertainty, apsidal precision, or R$\o$mer effect as those effects should be unsigned. For some particular targets, timing offsets are likely due to tidal dissipation. Our sample leads to the detection of period decaying candidates of WASP-161b and XO-3b reported previously.

  • Self-consistent Stellar Radial Velocities from LAMOST Medium-Resolution Survey (MRS) DR7

    摘要: Radial velocity (RV) is among the most fundamental physical quantities obtainable from stellar spectra and is rather important in the analysis of time-domain phenomena. The LAMOST Medium-Resolution Survey (MRS) DR7 contains 5 million single-exposure stellar spectra at spectral resolution $R\sim7\,500$. However, the temporal variation of the RV zero-points (RVZPs) of the MRS survey, which makes the RVs from multiple epochs inconsistent, has not been addressed. In this paper, we measure the RVs of the 3.8 million single-exposure spectra (for 0.6 million stars) with signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) higher than 5 based on cross-correlation function (CCF) method, and propose a robust method to self-consistently determine the RVZPs exposure-by-exposure for each spectrograph with the help of \textit{Gaia} DR2 RVs. Such RVZPs are estimated for 3.6 million RVs and can reach a mean precision of $\sim 0.38\,\mathrm{km\,s}^{-1}$. The result of the temporal variation of RVZPs indicates that our algorithm is efficient and necessary before we use the absolute RVs to perform time-domain analysis. Validating the results with APOGEE DR16 shows that our absolute RVs can reach an overall precision of 0.84/0.80 $\mathrm{km\,s}^{-1}$ in the blue/red arm at $50<\mathrm{SNR}<100$, while 1.26/1.99 $\mathrm{km\,s}^{-1}$ at $5<\mathrm{SNR}<10$. The cumulative distribution function (CDF) of the standard deviations of multiple RVs ($N_\mathrm{obs}\geq 8$) for 678 standard stars reach 0.45/0.54, 1.07/1.39, and 1.45/1.86 $\mathrm{km\,s}^{-1}$ in the blue/red arm at 50\%, 90\%, and 95\% levels, respectively.   • Exploring the stellar rotation of early-type stars in the LAMOST Medium-Resolution Survey. I. Catalog

    摘要: We derive stellar parameters and abundances (`stellar labels') of 40,034 late-B and A-type main-sequence stars extracted from the Large Sky Area Multi-Object Fiber Spectroscopic Telescope Medium Resolution Survey (LAMOST--MRS). The primary selection of our early-type sample was obtained from LAMOST Data Release 7 based on spectral line indices. We employed the Stellar LAbel Machine (SLAM) to derive their spectroscopic stellar parameters, drawing on Kurucz spectral synthesis models with 6000 K $< T_\mathrm{eff} <$ 15,000 K and $-1$ dex $< \mathrm{[M/H]} <$ 1 dex. For a signal-to-noise ratio of $\sim 60$, the cross-validated scatter is $\sim$75 K, 0.06 dex, 0.05 dex, and $\sim 3.5\,\mathrm{km\,s^{-1}}$ for $T_\mathrm{eff}$, $\log g$, [M/H], and $v\sin i$, respectively. A comparison with objects with prior, known stellar labels shows great consistency for all stellar parameters, except for $\log g$. Although this is an intrinsic caveat that comes from the MRS's narrow wavelength coverage, it only has a minor effect on estimates of the stellar rotation rates because of the decent spectral resolution and the profile-fitting method employed. The masses and ages of our early-type sample stars were inferred from non-rotating stellar evolution models. This paves the way for reviewing the properties of stellar rotation distributions as a function of stellar mass and age.
